2017 OSI Community Fellow Shantell Roberts was recently named one of the United Way of Central Maryland’s “Philanthropic Five” award winners. The awards are given to “five young professional leaders who have created meaningful change in central Maryland through an extraordinary commitment to volunteerism in one or more of the following areas: education, housing, employment or health.”
Roberts was recognized for Touching Young Lives, Incorporated, a nonprofit organization she founded that focuses on the health and well-being of infants and children. As part of her fellowship, Roberts is working to implement a new sleeping method for children, the Portable Alternative Crib (P.A.C.), which she has exhaustively researched and found to be a safe way to combat SIDS in the city and across the region.
The organization will recognize the “Philanthropic Five” during its seventh annual Emerging Leaders United (ELU) Young Professionals Conference on Friday, May 11.
